Quantum Communication involves sending information using Quantum States. In principle, such a process provides unconditional security to communication due to the inherent nature of Quantum States. Secure Quantum Communication assumes certain urgency because of massive investments made towards the development of Quantum Computers by huge multinational Corporations and Governments. The availability of such computers has potential to compromise current encryption methods which depend on mathematical complexity of encoding and not on any physical law.
In this project, We propose to set up Free Space Quantum Communication between two Portable Optical Ground Stations so that the same could be used for Satellite-Based Quantum Communication. Before that we will be verifying existing Free Space Quantum Communication Protocols and developing new Efficient Protocols in the lab. We plan to demonstrate Free Space Quantum Communication for more than 200 meters between two buildings for the first phase of the project.
