There are several picturesque Himalayan mountain towns near Chandigarh - Shimla, Kufri, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala. The Chandigarh-Mohali region is modern, with wide boulevards and fast-flowing traffic. The Chandigarh International Airport is located in Mohali - about 8 km (5 miles) from the IISER Mohali campus. The weather in early December is cool and crisp: 21°C / 70°F (high) and 8°C / 46°F (low). You can expect pleasant and sunny afternoons, but the evenings and early mornings will be quite chilly.
